30A – Final Reflection

It has been one heck of a Ride

Reading through my blog posts from this past semester was probably the best things I’ve done all we as each blog post brought back memories from that specific week. To be honest when I first started this course I was very hesitant that I would learn anything from this class. When I first saw this class I surprised by the blog post format as I thought by posting my venture idea online for the whole class to see would not only be pointless but scary as I was worried my idea would be ridiculed by my classmates. Once ball got rolling and the more I experienced in this class the more I was willing to open up in my blog post as well as appreciate the idea presented in my classmates. From there I learned the true value of the class as it got us to present our ideas to an audience and review others ideas and I’ll admit I kinda began enjoy making a blog post every one and a then because even though I wasn’t talking about week when I read back on my blog post I remember that whole we and how I felt like a dairy post but without the daily routine. I remember the first assignment as it asked what entrepreneurial experience have we had in the past and I felt awkward not having a definitive answer, but once I started reading the other blog post I began to realize most of everyone didn’t have a definitive answer as well. But the assignment that made me truly appreciate the entrepreneurial experience was the Elevator pitches as they started out really awkward but the more comfortable I got to be in front of a camera the more fun they became and it was great watching everyone experience this grow from it as well. One asked what is best thing I’ve learned from the class and what I would pass on is the idea is that when pursuing a goal don’t keep your sights narrow but view the open seas. Look at everything in your path and think to yourself why you want to pursue this goal and the motivation to do your tasks will come. Don’t view your assignments as chores but steps in your path onto the next your next goal. Once you appreciate the steps you'll appreciate the journey.

29A – Venture Concept No. 2

Part 1: the Opportunity

Arc 1: How did this idea come to me

Similarly to everyone my age, I grew up around technology. I spent all of my time growing up either play, interacting, or studying with the help of some form of technology. Where it was to use my PS2 to play video games or my computer to do homework. This constant stream of interaction lead me to fall in love with every piece of technology I touched growing from. Spending most of my time either figure out how it worked or tearing it apart to see what it looked like on the inside. The bountiful wealth of knowledge came with a hefty cost, as I was adversely known as the “tech kid” growing as everyone around me: friends, family, and sometimes coworkers would come up to me with their problems and that is when I realized many people barely know the basics yet technology is a literal essential part of everyone's lives yet when asked what to do when their phone start acting up many people freeze up and go ask for help even if the problem is as simple as restarting the device. The problem I have is not that I don’t want people going to get help when something stops working but I don’t people to be surprised/panicked when something fails, because when people are confused they do silly things which usually ends with them being scammed as they make an unnecessary purchase. I’ve been watching this process happen for years. This is why I wanted the create the site known as ‘Allpoint’ as I know there all millions of site that already do my idea but better. How I see things is that many people are too intimidated by the idea going on many of these sites because they feel that the nomenclature/lingo. I wanted to build a site that made people feel welcomed. Idea is that sites like Reddit have a pre established community with a poor stigma around the community and for many people this seems off putting. That’s why this is a big opportunity because if I can make a site that is as expedient as many mainstream sources yet more welcoming than those currently I feel I could make a site that does not only a lot of good but help introduce many into the age of technology that seems to allude so many people.

Part 2: Innovation

Arc 2: How will it all come to together

Throughout my time here in ENT3003 I have made my venture not only more concise but realistic as well as how to develop a road map for how I should make this a reality. The first step is to create the the concept and I how visualized “Allpoint” was it to be a two part forum and new site. There are several sketches all over my blog for those who are interested in getting a visualization but the idea is that the header of the site will be a scrolling live feed of the current popular new stories while the bottom section will be series of topic that will take user to various ‘schools’ of tech such as a section for Apple products which then prompt the user to search for which product they want specifically such Macs or iPhones. What I hope the most from this product is that it creates an ease of use for the user as it will be simple enough to find what product they are looking for while also having a search feature that will allow the users to easily find what they want.Predominantly, the biggest challenge is winning the metaphorically arms race that is getting to the information first and reporting on the news. This problem is based on the consumer base and currently the leader in this department is Twitter as many celebrity post status updates or pseudo-blog posts about updates. Many developers and companies use Twitter to communicate with fans and the community. What I would have to do to potentially surpass the current Twitter monarchy would be a way to provide incentives for the publishers and companies to openly communicate with users. This would give my site the one up on Twitter as many comments go unheard as companies post an update then ignore the topic unless they are absolutely forced to. But these are big future plans for right now I should be forcing on making a non-profit site that works towards en massing a sphere of influence. From there I would need to then gain sponsors and have sponsored users which will soon be the bulk of our profits. To get the site up and running I will need to start on the small scale such as only being hosted to the students here at the University of Florida then have it run by primary by volunteers. In short the best road to success is by first connecting the average user to their technology then connecting the user their products as they will be able to discuss and talk to with major corporation rather than faceless announcement bots.

Part 3: Revelations

Arc 3: What I’ve learned

In these last couple of weeks I’ve encounter several epiphany that lead to many changes in my initial plan as these past couple really made me think about my end game. Like Thanos, I need to think about this venture will cost me and at what point should cut tail and purse other projects. While also considering the extremes such as opening my market to a different audience or changing the objective entirely. What I’ve decided that would be best would make my venture into a platform that connects people with their businesses as well as to their products. I believe there is a lack of transparency between the modern user and their products and even bigger gap between big businesses and the people. I feel in creating a platform in which businesses are willingly post their current progress while creating a line of communication from the community to businesses so the people can voice their concerns and expectations. I feel this would be the best end game route as it is an untapped market with high possibility of growth as fill a ever growing gap that no one seems to want fixed. In terms of longevity I plan on staying with the company 5 years after I’ve achieved my initial goals as stated earlier the reasoning is because I want be like Elon Musk and pursue other ventures (mainly research) with the funds I acquire but I also want to ensure that when I do decide to leave the company that I find a worthy succor and that he will preserve the ideals of the company and maintain the platform as a bridge between the people and technology and companies.

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More, Chris Anderson

The idea behind this book is that era of commercial hit is a dead concept as the best businesses in the future will be those who supply to the niche community that servers for the niche community. The idea is based on the as trend that many current trends including education is making the small minority the largest percent. Where on a test 80% of the content will only be on 20% of the material. To me the 3 most important lessons from book is the idea that online markets are becoming the norm and the more niche markets are able to outperform oversaturated markets. Or if you can provide a range of niche things you can compete with even the best of sellers. The next lesson is that idea that in today’s society anyone can produce anything and that content is easier and easier to make so in order to compete you much make content that appeals to a smaller market. Finally, with the internet and the current state of society accessing products are the easiest it has ever been and because of this accessibility it makes profit margins ridiculous. I can agree to this claim as I am too am guilty of buying products because it made small company or farmer community. This book real made me rethink my venture a little bit as it wasn’t niche venture but it would help people connected people to big business and their technology. Which to me is could be considered a niche service as I will providing a service that is indeed offered by many but not mainstream enough to make a difference. Personally I feel this book over exaggerate some of its point as yes it is best time to produce and producing is easier more than ever but competing with many of the big names is becoming more and more impossible and the measure of success is harder to define. I feel the future people will want to be different but the idea of commercial hits being dead or the idea that niche will over take the norm is very unlikely. A fun assignment would be interview the community and find what niche item or niche product they purchase frequently and how they would react to business that sold all they products they normal elsewhere or in multiple stores.

28A – Your Exit Strategy

My exit strategy - my escape

When reviewing Allpoint and what type of business it is,I realize it does have a lot potential to be become to be next Facebook and with right conditions it could be lifetime project that I could use until I retire. But after reading “Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, “ I realize that this venture isn’t what I want to spend the rest of my life working on similarly how Elon Musk created a program that would later be known as paypal which he sold to Ebay then pursued his dream of SpaceX. I feel that I would take a similar course of action as even though it seems like a interesting venture now 5 or so years from now I would probably sell the company and use the money I earn to further research and pursue other ventures.

The reason why I choose this specific strategy is because I feel that Allpoint is a very finite venture that will one day reach a its peak in terms of usefulness and it would probably be a better resource in the hands of a company which specializes in connecting people and businesses like Facebook.

The plan for my venture in the beginning seems relatively unchanged but it will seem to properly utilize my exit strategy I will need to focus harder on getting sponsors and investors.

26A – Celebrating Failure

This semester has been a fun one, while it has some of the best of times while also being the worst of times. Jokes aside there has been many fails this semester from start to finish but instead of making a 300 page blog post I’ll just state the most significant fail of 2019(so far). For me this fail would be when I wrote my blog(s) for this class and completely forgot to submit my assignments for the week and forgetting the cupcake the following Monday. It was the definition of a L weekend as I seemed I could do nothing right but in reality it presented to me a fatal flaw in how I do things It showed me that when I fail to plan I plan to fail. What I mean by this is that when you don’t write out a schedule or plan out your week you are very likely to make mistakes. From then on I learned by at least planning out your days you are very unlikely to make mistakes because you know what you need to do and what to expect. This class has taught me to embrace failure as every time I fail it opens up a new opportunity to learn and grow. The even the most successful of people fail a lot.

25A – What’s Next?

For this assignment, I wanted to test the radical bounds of my venture going from B2C I wanted to see how a site such as Allpoint would if it became a B2B business. What I mean is that I wanted to make a site that allowed businesses to discuss potential changes to their software and their products essential becoming a site where businesses would voice their true opinion which is available for the public to view and read. Personally, after some pondering a bit I viewed this idea unsustainable as already businesses have the ability to communicate with their clientele but unless communicated is absolutely necessary many companies wouldn’t bother wasting their time discussing their projects with the public until it becomes a problem or something is leaked. Regardless, I wanted to see what my interviewees felt about this. The second extreme I wanted to discuss in this series of interviews was the idea of making a professional tech site that is made for exclusive for those who are knowledgeable and have it be a platform that would he used a user work space where people could discuss projects and open source it to the community while also being able recruit professionals for projects and ventures.

Existing Market: A platform that would allow users to connect with their technology allowing them to discuss updates while also being informed of how community feels about features and/or updates.

New Market(s): A platform in which business could discuss with other businesses about their goals/projects which would be publicly available allowing people view goals and intentions of businesses/products.

A platform similar to Linkin and Openstax which will allow users work on projects and find talent while also discuss new updates and existing tech. A website made by professionals for professionals.

Reflection: After discussing all three concepts to my interviewees they seemed to all really like the idea of the last one project. This surprised me the most until they explained their reasoning which made sense to many people technology is the least of their worries so as long as they know the bare minimum to complete their work they will be content with themselves and find no value in site such as “Allpoint”. Where as a site such as my third suggestion many people would love another option to connect to other business/projects where they can apply their skills. This site can alternatively serve as way of granting internships to those who seem curious enough to explore the field. More research is needed but the process to making this transition may be not as difficult as it seems the transition to a open source work space may not be complicated as it seems.

23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

Financial capital - about $5 dollars.

In terms of financial capital currently, unless I get a loan my current funds are non-existent. Realistically, if I want this venture to take flight I would have to go non profit and have the server cost come out of pocket. Meaning until I am able to get ads rolling on the site and get some sponsorship going as well.

Human capital/social- Who can I call?

In terms of human capital, I have some experience with programming and website design which is predominant in developing. Beside that I do have variety of people on hand who are willing to help me pursue such a venture.

Most important virtue- What makes us stand out

What makes my project stand out is the idea that for a while we will be promoting free speech allowing users to communicate what they like/dislike about various tech related things while also teaching those who know nothing the knowledge they need to make informed decisions on their purchases. Idea is that this will be a welcoming platform that no one should feel intimidated in joining.
